Gluten free cookies are not a main course!

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Gluten free cookies should NOT make up a huge part of your diet!

They’re called desserts (and not steak and salad) for a reason!  Don’t be a knucklehead and think that just because something says “Paleo” or “Gluten free” that it’s totally good for you and you can pig out as much as you want.  If you’re just looking to skip the place where I finally say, yeah, go ahead and buy some gluten free cookies, click here.

Ok, now that it’s out of the way, let’s hit on the whole “gluten free” market for a bit.  Gluten free has really gained some traction in the last few years, and we’re now seeing a huge increase in folks actively looking for not just regular gluten free foods but gluten free cookies as well.  In one sense that’s awesome, as anything we can do to get more people off the routine of putting poison (gluten, grains, dairy etc) in their bodies is excellent.  On the other hand, the temporary “hotness” of gluten free is bringing all kinds of yahoos out of the woodwork and into the market.

The kicker to this is the same one that hits every industry fixated on the process but not the goal; there are plenty of companies cranking out gluten free cookies that are just as bad (or even worse!) than a regular cookie.

How is this possible?  Well, while “gluten free” is certainly a great place to start when it comes to intestinal and overall health, it’s not quite the be all/end all as many of you know. Gluten is a major culprit in the disruption of digestive health, but it’s not the only one, and digestive health isn’t all there is to health.  Ingredients like raw cane sugar, refined flours and unhealthy fats all can contribute to you feeling like a suck-sandwich when you should be feeling like a $40 dollar pork chop.

Look, there’re a million sites out there that get into the weeds about this whole thing, so the best advice we can give is get out there, do your research, find stuff that works for you, and in the meantime, buy a couple of awesome paleo cookies from the one company who does know what they’re doing, and that’s Paleo Treats.
